There are many ways to attach a hair topper but usually hair toppers are attached using pressure snap clips. The commonly used snap clips come in different sizes. if you have hair loss the smallest ones are best (2cm long) and will provide the best hold. You also want to make sure they have the silicon strip to protect your hair and prevent slippage.
When you receive your hair topper it may not have the right amount of clips or be in the right position for you. I hope the information in this blog will help you have the perfect placement of your clips. Mello-Hair will always provide you with extra clips so you have them to hand from the get-go!
Step by step guide to adding and removing clips to your hair topper
What you will need ;
- Additional hair clips.
- Needle and thread (match the thread with the colour of your hair topper)
- A small pair of sewing scissors.
- Determine where you want to add the extra clips. It’s best to choose areas where you have a good amount of healthy hair that the clips can be securely clipped in. You may also want to consider removing the Centre comb and replace it with a clip, this is something that is commonly done and can give you extra security at the front of the hair topper. Use the small scissors to remove the comb and any other clips that you don’t need.
- Position the new clips where you want them and sew them onto the topper using a needle and thread that matches the color of the topper. Once all the new clips are securely attached, you can trim any excess thread. Remember to be gentle when handling your hair topper to avoid damaging the hair or the base. It’s also a good idea to test the new clips before wearing the topper to ensure they are secure and comfortable.
Top tips on wearing your hair topper with clips.
- Hair toppers should be comfortable to wear all day and not pull on your hair. if you do feel that the clip is pulling you need to readjust it until you do not feel it pulling
- Move your clips around every couple of months so your not clipping into the same area. You could cause extra strain on your bio hair and even cause tension alopecia.
- No need to spend allot on the tools needed to sew in your clips. You can use a normal needle and thread that you would use to sew a button on your clothing.
- Only add the clips to the edge of the topper cap so you don’t risk damaging the silk top area.

It is possible to use clear wire at the front of the topper to hold this securely in place. It does depend on the design of this topper and the placement of the wire to ensure the topper lays perfectly flat across the fringe area. You can purchase hair toppers that are secured in this way.
