Alopecia Areata Clinical Trial
A new clinical trial is recruiting study volunteers who have mild-to-moderate alopecia areata (patchy or less than 50% hair loss NOT totalis or universalis). The trial has been running since 2022 and needs a further 30 participants to meet its target number.
What is the trial product?
The trial aims to test a new, once-a-day, topical product. This is based on a mechanism, with a well-established safety profile in dermatology. The product has been modified to maximize the efficacy of this mechanism.
If the trial is successful, the intention is to gain approval for mild/moderate alopecia areata so that it can be prescribed to all patients.
The study aims to see how effective the new product is in inducing hair regrowth.
What will it involve?
- An invitation to attend one of the clinics in the UK.
- You will be applying the cream provided to the affected skin every day for 6 months.
- Assessment by a health care professional at the start of the trial and at 2-month intervals during the 6-month trial plus a 2-month follow-up (total involvement will be 8 months).
- A questionnaire to be completed about the treatment and your quality of life throughout.
- The initial visit will last around 1-1.5 hours, with the remaining visits lasting under an hour, for a total of 5 visits.
